July 2008 New Trustees for The Maria Nobrega Foundation (USA) Ambassadress Elisabeth Reiss of Williamsburg, Virginia, are to join the Board. We extend to them both a warm welcome and look forward to working with them.
July 2008 The Cyrene Declaration The Trustees are to join with the Director General UNESCO, Professor Francesco Bandarin, the Director General ICCROM, Professor Mounir Bouchenaki and a group of the world's leading archaeologists, to attend the working meeting in Libya to draft the Management Plan for the archaeological site of Cyrene in Libya. This meeting represents the follow on action emanating from the signing of The Cyrene Declaration in September 2007
June 2008 The UK Charity Commisioners give formal approval to amending The Foundation's Deed of Trust to enable The Foundation to undertake projects Worldwide.
May 2008 The Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr William L Oullin as a Trustee of The Maria Nobrega Foundation. Mr Oullin is Chairman of Barclays Private Bank plc.
January-April 2008 The Foundation's Co-founders and Presidents, Sra Elizabeth Tsakiroglou and Col Michael Carrington, travel extensively, visiting the United States, Europe and Libya, to promote International interest in finding solutions to the problems faced by Olinda.
12-14th November 2007 Olinda,Brazil. UNESCO World Heritage Centre Conference for Latin America. The Foundation was represented by Professor Robert Adam, Sra Elizabeth Tsakiroglou, Col Michael Carrington, Mrs Marinette Britten, Sr Geraldo Andrade, Sr Edmilson Rodrigues De Albuquerque and in attendance Father Antonio Terry and Mr Steve Dear.
18th October 2007 The Brazilian Ambassador has kindly agreed to host a fund raising Reception in the Washington DC Embassy.
5th September 2007 Carlos Miele, is appointed to The Board of Trustees, Fundacao Maria Nobrega.
July 2007 Mr Dan and Mrs Katherine Dimancescu are appointed Trustees of The Maria Nobrega Foundation (USA).
April 2007 The proposal by The Maria Nobrega Foundation to UNESCO World Heritage Centre for the UNESCO Latin American Conference 2007, to be held in Olinda was agreed. The Conference will take place from 12th to14th November inclusive.
December 2006 to January 2007. The Co-Founders of Fundacao Maria Nobrega visit Olinda to attend various meetings with The Municipality, IPHAN, The Order of Franciscans and The Army. An exclusive joint venture agreement was signed with The Order of Franciscans concerning the restoration of Convento Sao Francisco and with The Curia Metropolitana authorising the Fundacao to proceed with the restoration of the church of St John the Baptist.These documents were lodged with the Municipalty. The first draft drawings were received from the Army concerning the build of new dwellings at Curado Atlantic Rain Forest.
17th November 2006: Sra Elizabeth Tsakiroglou and Col Michael Carrington meet in Paris with The Director General UNESCO World Heritage Centres, Sr Francesco Bandarin, Representatives of The Brazilian Delegation to UNESCO and Head Latin America and Caribbean Department to discuss the forthcoming UNESCO World Heritage Centre conference in Brazil in 2007.
3rd - 6th November 2006: Elizabeth Tsakiroglou and Michael Carrington attend The Venice Charter Conference in Venice and HRH The Prince of Wales Board of Trustees meeting of The International Network of Building, Architecture and the Urban Environment
26th - 28th October 2006: Michael Carrington presents speech to Delft University on Olinda.The Symposium is attended by representatives from UNESCO World Heritage Centres, The Brazilian Embassy in The Netherlands and Brazilian Cultural Heritage. Click here to see full draft of speech.
September and October 2006: The Founders visit Olinda and Recife, and attend planning meetings with The Archbishop of Recife and Olinda, IPHAN, The Municipality of Olinda, The Army Commander for The NorthEast, The Order of Franciscans and The Third Order. A series of open meetings are held with the local community.
7th June 2006: Sra Elizabeth Tsakiroglou and Col Michael Carrington meet with The Brazilian Minister of Culture, Gilberto Gil
6th June 2006: Sra Elizabeth Tsakiroglou meets with Mrs Bonnie Burnham, President The World Monuments Fund and Ms Norma Barbacci, Director of Programs, in New York to discuss the initial grant application for The Master Plan for Convent Sao Francisco
31st May 2006: The Co-Founders of The Foundation attend a Board Meeting of The Maria Nobrega Foundation (USA) in Washington D.C. kindly hosted by Professor Alan Gerson. Mme Corinne Bensahel attended the meeting on her appointment as a Trustee. In the evening the Board of Trustees attended a private reception at The Brazilian Embassy as guests The Ambassadress
8th March 2006:Sra Elizabeth Tsakiroglou and Col Michael Carrington attend the Reception and Banquet for The President of The Federative Republic of Brazil at The Guildhall, London and afterwards meet with President and Mrs Lula da Silva.
25th January 2005: A reception at The Foundation's Bankers, Coutts & Co, London to promote The Foundation's fund raising event, Art in the Park, Central Park, New York.
