In cooperation with the Traditional Knowledge Institute (Florence), Prof. Ion Ghinoiu and a team from the Center for Traditional Research (Bucharest) initiated a study-project on the desertification of the Mures River Basin that runs through the heart of Transylvania. The project is being developed in association with the Mures River Basin Administration.
The joint effort coordinated by Alexandra Carlsson, Asociata Maria Nobrega Project Director, will be proposed for funding under a special EU program on using traditional "bent-uri" ponds for irrigation as a well as modern techniques to reverse desertification problems in several European river basins.
